Redford House Guest House
Colleen and Clive Noble welcome you to their historic country guest house near Plettenberg Bay in the Garden Route. It was built by early English settlers and is situated at the foot of the Tsitsikamma Mountains in a little village known as The Crags. Here elephants, buffalo and leopard roamed free a mere 130 years ago. Charles Darwin described this area as the smallest but richest floral kingdom in the world, and the beautiful walking trails in the mountains allow the visitor to view unspoilt tracts of land abounding with proteas, ericas, watsonias, and many species of lilies.
Redford House is set in a park-like garden, with beautiful lakes, ponds and ancient oaks, which leads to fynbos and a 50 acre nature reserve with walking and birding trails. Wonderful birds can be seen on the walks. Fish Eagles and other raptors abound, as well as many water birds, Sunbirds, Orioles, Knysna Loeries, the shy Nerina Trogan, and at night there is the magic call of the Nightjar.
The Cape Georgian style Guest House is furnished with antiques and has a large double lounge with comfortable sofas, bookshelves and large fireplaces at either end. Upstairs are two beautifully decorated bedrooms with glorious views of the estate and the surrounding countryside. Both have en-suite bathrooms with Victorian baths, and showers.
A restored Carriage House, furnished with antiques, and with en-suite bathroom with bath and shower, has beautiful views of the mountains, old oaks, lake and dams.
For those who prefer self-catering, the fully equipped Mrs. Tiggy Winkle's Cottage is an ideal retreat with a private garden. It has a lounge/dining room, kitchen, double bedroom and a second small bedroom suitable for a child, bathroom and outdoor shower.
Facilities at Redford House include a pool pavilion and studio, swimming pool and tennis court. Breakfast is served in the farmhouse kitchen or overlooking the pool. By arrangement, candlelight dinners can be prepared in the settler's dining room with stories of the days of old. Art classes and courses are held in the art studio.
